How We Evaluate Products
Trustworthy recommendations require a repeatable process. Here is ours, in full.
1. Market survey
We start each guide by cataloging every current-generation model from brands with an established US presence — meaning real customer support, parts availability, and a track record of honoring warranties. Brands without those fundamentals are excluded regardless of specs, because a great product from an unreachable company is a bad purchase.
2. Specification analysis
We compare on the specifications that predict real-world satisfaction, not marketing numbers. That means battery chemistry and certified capacity rather than "max range" claims, UL certification status, continuous rather than peak power ratings, warranty length and what it actually covers, and total cost of ownership including consumables and installation.
3. Evidence review
We aggregate results from independent testing outlets and long-term owner reports, weighting hands-on lab data and multi-month ownership feedback far above first-impression reviews. Where sources disagree, we say so in the review.
4. Ranking and awards
Each guide names a small set of award winners — Best Overall, Best Value, and category-specific picks. Ratings are set by our editorial team on a 5-point scale reflecting performance, build quality, reliability outlook, and value at its price. No manufacturer sees, influences, or pays for a ranking.
5. Ongoing updates
Guides are living documents. We re-verify pricing, availability, and model generations regularly, and each review displays its last update date. When a recommended product is discontinued or superseded, we replace it and note the change.
What we don't do
We don't accept payment for placement, we don't let affiliate commissions influence rankings, and we don't quote live retailer prices — prices on this site are labeled approximate, and the retailer link always shows you the current figure before you buy.
